What is Oscilloscope ?

The oscilloscope is a measuring instrument that detects the time and amplitude on the device at the same time by changing the electrical values such as voltage, frequency and current on the device and converting the signals into a graphic (wave) shape.

The oscilloscope shows information about time interval, rise time, and distortion of the formed signal. As you know, the voltmeter can only show us the magnitude and direction of the voltage in the circuit numerically. On the other hand, the oscilloscope offers an easier way to understand the change of voltage depending on time as a two-axis graph. Oscilloscopes, which are the more advanced multimeters that every electronicist knows and uses, are the devices with the most measurement possibilities to detect the waveform, frequency and amplitude of the signal at the same time.

Oscilloscopes are an essential tool for the electronics lab or field test electronics equipment.

Most Used Oscilloscope Types:

Digital Oscilloscope: One of the most frequently used types of oscilloscope is digital oscilloscope. They operate with a fast and high resolution analog-digital converter (ADC) circuit and a microcontroller that controls the display functions with the button. Digital oscilloscopes are more preferred than analog oscilloscopes. Digital oscilloscopes work on the principle of sampling the signal from the input at high frequencies thanks to advanced microprocessors. Thanks to the sampling of the signal at these high speeds, the monitored signal can be stopped at any time, triggered at the desired level, recorded and re-created.
Although there is no theoretical limit in analog oscilloscopes, due to its technology, it usually appears as 50 / 60Hz. However, the maximum frequency of the signal you can measure in digital oscilloscopes varies depending on the sampling rate of the device you will buy.
Convenient features such as automatic measurement, frequency analysis and FFT, image memory are made possible by digital oscilloscopes.

Analog Oscilloscope: Analog oscilloscopes are not used as much as before because we are in the digital age. It can still be used as nostalgia. Analog oscilloscopes works like CRT tube televisions. These devices, working on the principle of the deflection of the electron beam in a cathode ray tube on the screen by the input signal applied to the vertical and horizontal deflector coils, form the oldest type oscilloscopes known.

USB Oscilloscope: These types of devices are oscilloscope types that do not have a screen on themselves. USB Oscilloscopes work on the same principle as digital oscilloscopes. In order to display the signal graphics, a computer and software are required. They are much more affordable than other types of oscilloscopes.

Portable Oscilloscope: It is a type of oscilloscope with limited features due to its small size and easy transportation. They have an extra durable protective casing, as they are often designed for field use. Laboratory type oscilloscopes with battery and charge models are devices that can give high accuracy results.
